MAKING OF ‘TRANSFORMATION’ PART3: THE SCREENPLAY. ‘I had never written a screenplay before, but I had read about 100s of scripts for the films I had written the music for. I had divided the film into three acts and then got to work on the scene changes and the dramaturgy. I always knew that the plot is the most important thing, the unexpected, the special thing about a science fiction story. The story should have something very dark, dystopian and evil, something that cannot be solved at first, cannot be won. And of course I didn’t want to make a film just about wars, aliens and humans winning, how boring! Many good science fiction films have throughout my life, the story had to be new, something I hadn’t seen myself before. This much can be revealed here: ‘Only humans still live on Earth. Dangerous genetic experiments have wiped out the entire food chain. The only food which is keeping the last humans alive is the yellow Nova. In the far future, the last Drakzuls, highly intelligent beings, had to flee from their homeland, their planet destroyed by their enemies. They are searching for a new world to survive. And they found it‘. I’ve taken up a lot of contemporary issues, the problems that we’re all facing in this world right now, from politics, dangers and wars to climate change. It was important to me to talk about something personal that concerns me. But I don’t want to give away the most important theme in the film just yet. I hope I have somehow succeeded.
